South Africa’s G20 presidency and UN mid-year meeting present funding opportunities
If Africa fails to increase its spending on science, technology and innovation this year, it will not be for lack of opportunities.
Two events appear likely to set the tone for the continent’s R&D ambitions: South Africa’s 12-month presidency of the G20, leading to a summit in Johannesburg at the end of the year, and a United Nations meeting on financing of development planned for the middle of the year in Spain.
