Facebook Messenger encrypted chats now offer more of the functionality you'd expect.

Meta is increasing the number of tests that make encryption the default setting.

You no longer have to sacrifice the privacy of end-to-end encryption in Facebook Messenger in order to enjoy the creature comforts you've come to expect. Several popular features are being added to encrypted conversations by Meta. You may now select themes, create profiles for group discussions, and utilize custom emoji and replies. Active status and online link previews are now available in this more secure mode, and Android users may use floating Bubbles to communicate while using other applications.

You're also more inclined to use encrypted conversations. Meta is ramping up attempts to make encryption the default setting for Facebook Messenger. Some communication threads will be updated in the "coming several months," according to the corporation. If you are a participant in the test, you will be notified in a relevant forum.

Meta began experimenting with default encryption in August of last year. It stated at the time that it aimed to launch the Facebook Messenger update in 2023. The social network company did not specify an updated schedule, but the feature addition brings Meta much closer to that goal – there is much more compatibility with unencrypted conversations. Encrypted Messenger had caught up on certain features by the beginning of 2022, but it was still lagging far behind its less secure predecessor.

Not everyone will be pleased. End-to-end encryption has been opposed by officials in the United States, the United Kingdom, and other countries. They are afraid that criminals may utilize encrypted discussions to discuss strategies that will be inaccessible to law enforcement and monitoring agencies. Politicians, including former US Attorney General Bill Barr, have urged Meta to undermine encryption by introducing "backdoors." However, Meta has refused to back down, and it is clear that the firm is committed to improving privacy across its products.
